CORPORATE COMMITMENTS

Climate and CO2 transparency

We are continuously working towards reducing our waste, our energy consumption and lowering our carbon footprint – aiming to offer full transparency along the way.

WASTE

Maximising recycling efforts

We work systematically to reduce, sort, recycle, and rethink waste across our production processes and facilities. Guided by a formal commitment to environmental licensed partners to ensure responsible disposal, traceability, and compliance at every level.

In 2024, Wendelbo recycled approximately 81.4% of its waste through scrap recovery and material reuse efforts.

At Wendelbo, we don’t view waste as an endpoint, but as part of a larger opportunity. From transforming sawdust into biofuel to reusing foam in soft furnishings, we actively look for creative, low-impact ways to give materials a second life. Leather off-cuts are repurposed into small goods such as wallets and accessories, while metal scraps, including iron and steel, are sorted, melted down, and reprocessed into new raw materials - supporting a more circular production cycle.

Our production site includes dedicated, clearly marked storage zones for each waste type, ensuring safety, compliance, and traceability throughout the process. All waste-handling partners work under a shared environmental commitment, aligning with strict standards for sorting, collection, transportation, and treatment.

While we have made significant strides, we know there is still room to improve. One key focus area for us is reducing textile waste, particularly off-cuts from our upholstery production. We are actively exploring circular design solutions and new partnerships to ensure more of this material can be reused or recycled, rather than discarded.

IMPACT

Reducing our carbon footprint

Operational CO2 emissions
We are continuously conducting a comprehensive mapping of both our direct and indirect CO2 emissions to identify areas and develop strategies for effectively reducing our carbon footprint.

Renewable energy
Today, all Danish offices and showrooms are running on 100% renewable energy. At our production facilities in Vietnam, we harness all available solar energy through solar panels. The solar panels covered 60% of our energy needs at the factory in 2024, with the remaining portion supplied by conventional energy sources.

Our goal is to transition to 100% renewable energy at all facilities by 2030.

Product CO2 emissions
At Wendelbo, we are committed to understanding and reducing the environmental impact of our products across their entire lifecycle. To support this, we are implementing a structured screening process designed to assess every component of each product - from upholstery and foam to frames and fittings.

This approach allows us to map the complete material composition and origin of our designs and calculate their total CO₂ footprint. The insights gained help us identify areas for improvement, particularly in reducing emissions and phasing out harmful substances.

To ensure credibility and consistency, we collaborate with Målbar, a Danish company specialising in environmental impact assessments for furniture and interior products. Målbar’s digital tool is built on the methodology of the EN ISO 14040/44 standards for life cycle assessment (LCA) and complies with the EU’s Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) framework. It evaluates ten key lifecycle stages - from raw material extraction and processing to manufacturing, transport, use, and end-of life.

We aim to complete screenings for all product families by 2026 and to make the results available as part of our broader commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.
